The Long Road: Rosie at 30 Days
Thirty days into her journey at OneHeart, Rosie is beginning to discover that transformation is not always about dramatic moments. More often, it is about showing up day after day, even when life feels overwhelming. This month tested her ability to balance recovery, work, and motherhood, but it also revealed strengths she may not have fully recognized in herself before.
When asked what she was most proud of during her first month, Rosie’s answer came quickly:
“Graduating IOP.”
Completing Intensive Outpatient Treatment required a significant commitment. For a month, she attended sessions three days each week while continuing to work and care for her two daughters. The schedule was demanding and often exhausting. Although she genuinely enjoyed the program and found it helpful, fitting treatment into an already full life was far from easy. Yet despite the challenges, Rosie persisted. She completed the program and walked away with a sense of accomplishment that reflects not only her hard work, but her determination to invest in her future.
That determination was tested repeatedly throughout the month. Rosie identified time as her greatest challenge.
There simply never seemed to be enough of it.
Between IOP, work responsibilities, household obligations, and parenting two children, every day felt packed from beginning to end. She admits there were moments when the pressure left her feeling frustrated and irritated. But rather than allowing those feelings to stop her progress, she continued moving forward.
The month reminded her that growth often requires enduring uncomfortable seasons while keeping sight of the larger goal.
Rosie also learned that she does not have to carry life’s burdens alone. One of the greatest sources of support came from her daycare provider, who frequently helped by picking up her children and caring for them until Rosie could complete her responsibilities. Just as meaningful was the encouragement she received from her daughters.
Everything Rosie is working toward revolves around them.
She talks openly with her girls about her goals and struggles, and they have become some of her biggest cheerleaders. During difficult days, they offered the simple words every parent hopes to hear:
“You got this, Mom. It’s okay.”
Looking toward the future, Rosie has already identified her next milestone. She wants to rebuild her credit and eventually secure a home of her own. For Rosie, this goal goes beyond finances. It represents a fresh start.
She describes it as wanting to feel “rebooted.”
She wants the opportunity to begin again without the constant shadow of old bills and debt collections hanging over her head. She envisions a future where her past no longer dictates her opportunities and where she can create greater stability for herself and her daughters.
Perhaps the most significant changes, however, are happening internally.
When reflecting on how she has changed since arriving at OneHeart, Rosie shared that she has become more open-minded about what is possible for her life. She no longer allows her felony conviction to define her potential.
Instead, she is learning to ask for help, embrace new opportunities, and remain open to learning. She is discovering that growth often begins just outside of her comfort zone.
In one of the most powerful reflections from her 30-day check-in, Rosie shared:
“When you’re feeling nervous, you’re going in the right direction.”
She also offered another lesson she has learned along the way:
“Pride is a drug. Not asking for help will push you over the edge.“
These insights reveal a woman who is not only changing circumstances, but also challenging the beliefs that once held her back.
At the 30-day mark, Rosie’s story is still being written. The obstacles have not disappeared, and the road ahead remains long. But she has already accomplished something important. She has proven to herself that she can show up, ask for help, follow through on difficult commitments, and continue pursuing a better future for her family.
For a mother rebuilding her life while raising two daughters, that is no small achievement.
And for all of us at OneHeart, it is a privilege to witness the next chapter of her transformation unfold.
