How Enrollment Works

OneHeart is not an emergency shelter. We are a transformation campus focused on helping people build a foundation for long-term self-sufficiency through employment, education, skill development, and healing unresolved trauma.

Enrollment begins with a referral from an approved OneHeart Provider Partner agency.

Get Referred

Your provider submits a referral to OneHeart. Then there is a review and interview process.

Prepare for Move-In

Meet with OneHeart staff, complete enrollment process, and receive your move-in date.

OneHeart may not be for everyone. Our program is designed for individuals and families who are ready to actively participate in their own transformation and work toward great stability, confidence, and self-sufficiency.

Eligibility Requirements

As with any program, potential OneHeart guests must meet certain eligibility requirements before enrollment.

Be referred by an approved OneHeart Provider Partner agency
A Rapid City area resident for a minimum of nine months in past year
Be at least 18 years old, or 16 with parent/guardian permission
Be willing to work toward employment, education, or skill development
Have government issued ID (driver's license, passport, tribal ID, military ID) or be actively working toward obtaining one
Not be a registered sex offender; some exceptions may apply
Able to independently care for basic activities of daily living, including personal hygiene and mobility
Agree to follow the OneHeart program agreement, campus rules, and expectations
Be willing to create and work toward self-directed goals and plans
Respect other campus guests and meet regularly with OneHeart staff
Understand that visitors are not permitted on campus
Agree to participate in OneHeart's clean and sober programming
Have a clean urinalysis (UA) prior to enrollment
Have 90 days of sobriety prior to enrollment

Before You Arrive

We want you to know what to expect before you move onto campus. OneHeart is a secure, structured environment designed to support your transformation journey.

Residential Living

Dormitory-style living accommodations.

Men’s & Women’s Floors
Communal restrooms
Shower stalls
Family Tower
Kitchenettes
Private bathrooms

Please plan accordingly.

Storage space is limited, so there is no excess storage available for personal belongings.

OneHeart staff will schedule your move-in date and time after your pre-enrollment meeting. Please be prepared to arrive and move in at the scheduled time.

Your Pre-Interview Meeting

Before move-in, OneHeart staff will meet with you to:

Answer questions you may have.
Review what to expect as a OneHeart guest.
Discuss your needs and circumstances.

Parking & Transportation

Parking on campus is limited.

If you have a vehicle:

Your vehicle must be properly insured.
OneHeart staff will verify your vehicle information.
You will receive a parking pass for campus.

If you do not have a vehicle, OneHeart provides transportation support. We will also consider your normal mode of transportation when planning your participation.

Bedding & Personal Belongings

OneHeart does not allow outside blankets, sheets, or other bedding to be brought onto campus.

Every guest receives a Guest Welcome Basket that includes the bedding essentials needed for their stay.

Some exceptions may apply for babies and religious or cultural items.

A Safe & Secure Campus

OneHeart is a secure campus with Life Safety and Residential Support staff on-site 24/7.

For the safety and protection of everyone on campus, guests are issued a badge that is used to scan in and out of the campus.

Visitors
OneHeart does not allow visitors on campus. This policy exists to help maintain a safe, secure, and supportive environment for everyone enrolled in the program.

Pets
Pets are not permitted on campus.

ADA service dogs are an exception with proper documentation.

Clean & Sober Programming

OneHeart is a clean and sober program.

Guests are expected to maintain sobriety throughout their enrollment and follow all program expectations related to substance-free living.
